Spring campaign: women building more sustainable livelihoods in Turkana

A Spring campaign by Inter-Cultur, Caritas Finland, and Caritas Lodwar has been launched. The collection promotes better livelihoods and food security for pastoralist women and their families in Turkana County, Kenya. Located in the arid regions of north-western Kenya, Turkana County is one of the poorest regions in Kenya, and the threat of hunger is ever-present.

Community-based savings and lending groups will be set up with the women involved in the project. They will be trained in beekeeping, honey processing, and basket weaving for better-quality baskets. They will also improve market access for honey, meat, and baskets, and improve the local goat population by mixing it with goat breeds that produce more meat and milk, says Riikka Aartola, who coordinates the project.

The project aims to increase the productivity and quality of women’s products and improve market access.

Join us to build change!

The women’s livelihoods development project in Turkana started last year and will run until the end of 2023. It involves 18 women’s groups and 540 women in six communities. In addition, 3 240 of their family members will indirectly benefit from the project. By supporting the Spring Campaign, you are helping to strengthen and diversify the livelihoods of vulnerable women and their families!
